Why are people living in the northan hemisphere fair skined and blond.with blue eyes.?

In acold climate you would have thoght that we would have dark skin to absorbe heat from the sun to keep warm while thoes of us living at the equator would have white skin to reflect the suns rays and help to keep us cooler.Are we mixed up ?
