Is it more difficult to get into college as a transfer student, and how much does a late application hurt me?

I'm not in a community college - I go to a university. I'm a freshman, and I'm doing fine (3.4 GPA last semester, no judicial problems or anything.) However, the school is very expensive, and I'm not having a time great enough to pay what I am to go to college. I want to transfer to a state school (SUNY Stony Brook.) I did my application yesterday, the day after it was due. The policy says that late applications would be yzed on a "space-available" basis. I know that I would have easily gotten into the school going straight from high school with an application on time. Does anyone have any insight as to how much my chances were hurt by a, transferring and b, submitting my application a little late?
