How do I know if my neon tetra is ready to spawn?

I bought 5 neons about a month ago and I just noticed today that it was getting fatter. She seems to be having trouble staying towards the bottom of the tank and swims kinda vertically to get to the bottom. Is she ready to spawn or does she have abdominal issues??
