It is highly unlikely that they will put you in jail. If this is your first offense, it is likely that you can get deferred prosecution, a deferred sentence, or any other plea bargain which gives you a conviction for a lessor crime for you just to plead guilty and pay a fine. Before you hire an attorney, try talking to the prosecutor for your case before it gets into court. If you find the prosecutor is not amenable to any type of reduced charge or penalty, then hire the attorney. You might be surprised to find that prosecutors don't want to spend anymore time in court than anyone else.
